Rhythm & Blues & BEYOND!
Owen's Bio

Owen has enjoyed playing in rock/pop and cabaret bands for many years at venues throughout the country. He is currently enjoying his role as keyboard player in 'Cahoots' immensely as the band has a great vibe when playing live!  He also enjoys being part of putting the ‘Cahoots stamp’ on classic rock and pop material.

Owen comes from a musical family and inevitably, started to learn the piano when aged 7 and at the same age became a member of his local church choir, later becoming the organist and choir master for a year at a small local church before going off to college.

He developed an interest in jazz music and improvisation at the age of 13 and this continued to influence his musical life and approach to making music.

Owen has for many years been active as a teacher and manager in music education in Coventry and has helped many hundreds of young musicians to play and create original music together in their own groups and bands.

He has composed and recorded  a range of music including numerous songs for children and young people, 4 Musicals, music for video, Theatre and Dance performances .  His songs and musicals have been performed on local radio and around the midlands area, including at Symphony Hall, the Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre and Leamington Spa Centre. His songs and arrangements were performed live by a group of 20 young singers in a packed  5,000 seat theatre in Belgrade, Serbia,  and broadcast across Europe on Sky TV as part of the European  International Children’s Festival in 2007.

Owen has a wide interest in styles of music and has written works for choirs and orchestra. His particular interest in contemporary jazz and world music has lead to performances with many well known midlands jazz musicians. With the help of several colleagues, Owen has directed  'Phoenix Collective', a large group of young musicians interested in composing and performing new jazz influenced contemporary music. The band has performed as part of the Coventry Jazz Festival on 8 occasions and was joined for 4 performances by international star saxophonist Gilad Atzmon.  Owen is very pleased with the recent  release of Jazz in Colour a CD of Phoenix Collective originals which features Gilad and local slide guitarist Johnny Slide on several tracks. He also looks forward to the release of Cahoots  brilliant new CD!
